Q & A

Q: What happens when a chronically employed person gets laid off and has to subsist on unemployment and a terribly meager bartender's income?

A: They panic.

Ex.: I, a chronically employed person, got laid off and had to subsist on unemployment and a terribly meager bartender's income. After submitting I've-lost-count-of-how-many resumes and going on three interviews, I was offered a job with not a lot of pay but decent flexibility and, it would seem, an equally decent employer. The job was offered on the spot and it wasn't until after I accepted that I did some calculations. Not including the commission-based bonus that I don't really want because I'm not supposed to be in sales, the job would net me about as much as unemployment would. Probably less when you consider taxes.

Huh.

Q: What happens when a chronically employed person gets laid off and has to subsist on unemployment and a terribly meager bartender's income and then gets a job that doesn't pay a whole lot but and gets the opportunity to interview for more important, better paying positions?

A: They take it.

Ex.: And I feel bad.
